Why one thousand, and not one more

People ask, kindly, why we capped the First Edition at a thousand pieces. There's a good, boring answer: it's what our workshop can produce to the standard we want, without the wheels coming off.

There's also a better one.

The unspoken agreement

When you buy something limited, there's an unspoken agreement between you and the people who made it. You're saying: I trust you weren't rushed. And they're saying: we weren't. We stopped when the last one felt like the first one.

A thousand is small enough for that to still be true.

What happens after

There will be a second edition. It will be different. Maybe a different cloth, maybe a different weight of brass. What it will not be is another thousand of the same. The First Edition is the First Edition because it can only be made once.
