Every copy of The Classic is made to be lived with: opened nightly, read beside, and passed across the bed without a second thought. We stand behind it, and if something goes wrong that shouldn't, we'll put it right.
This document sets out exactly what we cover, what we don't, and how a claim works, so there are no surprises on either side of the counter. Our business address is 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA.
1. Our promise
We warrant The Classic against defects in materials and workmanship for twelve months from the day it is delivered to you.
This covers the things that make it work and make it beautiful, including:
- the LED light module
- the rechargeable battery
- the charging port
- the spine and hinge mechanism
- the binding and cover, where a fault is ours rather than wear
2. Who the warranty covers
The warranty belongs to the original purchaser, and because so many copies of The Classic are given as gifts, it extends to the person you gave it to. All we ask is the original order number or proof of purchase.
It applies only to copies bought directly from Aster & Page. It does not extend to copies bought second-hand or from unauthorised resellers. We can only vouch for the journey of a book we sent ourselves.
Each First Edition carries its own number. Your warranty is registered to that copy, and we will ask for the edition number when you claim. A copy whose edition number has been removed, altered, or defaced falls outside the warranty.
You can register your copy with us so we have the number on file. Registration is not required for the warranty to apply.
3. What it doesn't cover
Like any well-loved book, The Classic will gather character over time. Our warranty does not cover:
- accidental damage: drops, knocks, crushing, or anything sat on it
- liquid damage of any kind, including humidity and condensation
- damage from misuse, or use other than as a reading light in the home
- damage from chargers, cables, or power sources that don't meet UK safety standards, or from charging practices our care guide warns against
- repairs, disassembly, or modifications made by anyone other than us
- commercial use: display in shops, hospitality, or hire
- cosmetic wear that does not affect how it works: the linen softening, small marks earned along the way, gentle fading with sunlight
- the gradual, natural decline in battery capacity that comes from normal charging over time (a genuinely faulty battery is always covered)
- damage caused after delivery by storage in extreme heat, cold, or damp
4. If it arrives damaged
Please unwrap your Classic within a few days of delivery. If it has been hurt in transit, write to us within 14 days of delivery at info@asterandpage.co.uk with photos of both the damage and the packaging it arrived in, and we will make it right. Transit damage reported long after delivery is genuinely difficult for us to trace with the courier, so prompt word helps us help you.
5. How to make a claim
Write to us at info@asterandpage.co.uk with:
- your order number or proof of purchase
- the edition number inside your copy
- a few words on what has gone wrong, and when it began
- a photo or short video showing the fault
We will reply within two working days. Please claim within a reasonable time of noticing a fault, ideally within 30 days, while the trail is fresh.
6. What happens next
Assessment. Most faults can be assessed from your photos or video. Where we need a closer look, we will send a prepaid return label so your Classic can come back to us, with postage on us for warranty assessment.
The remedy. If the fault is covered, we will repair your copy or replace it, or, where neither is possible, refund it. Repairs and replacements are completed within 30 (thirty) working days of the unit reaching us.
Return first. Where we replace a copy, the original comes home to us: we send the replacement once the faulty copy is on its way back with our prepaid label, or has reached us.
If no fault is found. If assessment shows no fault, or damage our warranty does not cover, we will explain what we found and return your copy to you. We may ask you to cover the return postage in that case, and we will always tell you before any cost arises.
Your edition number. If your copy cannot be repaired, we will do our best to match your number in a replacement, but where that is not possible, your replacement may carry a different number.
One warranty, one book. A repaired or replacement copy carries the remainder of your original twelve months (or 90 days, if longer). The warranty belongs to the book's story with you, and it does not restart with each new spine.
7. Fair dealing
We write our warranty generously and honour it the same way. In return, we ask that claims be honest. We may decline a claim where:
- the evidence provided has been altered or misrepresents the fault
- the same fault has previously been assessed and found excluded
- the copy claimed against is not the copy the order relates to
A claim made fraudulently voids the warranty on that copy. We'd rather never mention this, and to almost everyone reading, we never needed to.
8. Your rights, kept intact
This warranty is a promise we make in addition to the law. It does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which apply to everything we sell regardless of this warranty and cannot be limited by it. Nothing in sections 2–7 restricts any statutory right or remedy. Change-of-mind returns are covered separately in our Refund Policy.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in this warranty excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot be excluded under the law.
This warranty applies to purchases delivered within the United Kingdom and is governed by the law of England and Wales.
